Your answers indicate that you might have a vaginal yeast infection

A vaginal yeast infection is  an inflammation of your vagina, also known as thrush. Both fungus and bacteria naturally live in your vagina, but when the fungus Candida albicans increases, it can cause thrush. This fungus may increase when your immune system is weak or when good bacteria (called lactobacilli) can’t keep the fungus under control.
Just so you know, thrush is not a sexually transmitted infection, however, it can be passed to your partner.

It can be really uncomfortable, but in the majority of cases it’s simple to treat.

If you are unsure of your symptoms, please consult a doctor and you also might want to think about using our newly developed self-test for a convenient diagnosis at home.

If you are pregnant, breast-feeding or trying for a baby, tell your doctor or midwife before using Canesten thrush treatments.  If you have informed your doctor or midwife already follow his or her instructions carefully.  To treat internal thrush your doctor may recommend that you use the pessary without the help of an applicator.  Always read the label.

Attention from your doctor or pharmacist should be immediate especially if:

  • you are a first time sufferer of thrush
  • your previous thrush treatment was unsuccessful
  • you have been suffering from thrush more than twice in the last 6 months
  • you are under 16 or over 60 years old
  • you are taking or have recently taken other medicines
  • you have ever had an allergic reaction to Canesten or any other vaginal antifungal products
  • you or your partner have ever had sexually transmitted disease
  • you have any of the following symptoms: irregular vaginal bleeding, abnormal vaginal bleeding or blood-stained discharge, ulcers, blisters or sores of the vagina or vulva, lower abdominal pain, pain or difficulty in passing urine, fever or chills, feeling sick or vomiting, diarrhoea, a foul smelling discharge from the vagina.

Please print this result slip and discuss with your doctor or pharmacist for treatment options.

Your answers indicate that you might have Bacterial Vaginosis (BV)

Bacterial vaginosis (BV) may sound scary, but it's very common and easily treated. If you do get BV, remember you’re not alone. BV is the most common cause of vaginal infections in women of childbearing age (Hay & Sobel).

Your vagina is normally acidic, which helps prevent bad bacteria from growing and maintains the level of good bacteria called lactobacillus. If the pH balance becomes less acidic however, this can affect the health of your vagina.

Many women don’t know that vaginal infections are most commonly caused by bacteria rather than yeast (in the case of thrush) and trichomoniasis (a sexually transmitted infection).

Please consult a doctor for a diagnosis of BV.

Attention from your doctor or pharmacist should be immediate especially if:

  • you are pregnant
  • your symptoms get worse
  • your discharge is blood-stained
  • your discharge occurs during menopause

Please print this result slip and discuss with your doctor or pharmacist for treatment options.
